Downy Woodpeckers are the smallest woodpeckers in North America! They love visiting bird feeders and stay in Missouri through out the whole year. Males and females are hard to tell apart but you can always tell when one is male if it has a red spot on its head!
Black-Capped Chikadee's are often confused with Carolina Chikadee's especially here in Missouri since we have both of them!Occaisonally they will feel a little brave and rest near you on bird feeders.
Now they may not have a red belly but the Red-Bellied Woodpecker does have a red streak on its head! Males with cover the entire top of their head while females will only cover the back of their heads.
Mourning Doves will stay in Missouri through out the entire year! Males and females look the same with mostly gray feathers and black spots.
Weighing about 0.6-0.9oz and a tiny length of 5 in is the House Finch! Techically they are invasive in the East but many people do not mind them. Males can be identified through the red splashed on the their faces but other wise males and females look quite similar!
